Background

The task at hand was to create a membership website and social media graphics for newly established NHL team, the Seattle Kraken. Our main challenge was to ensure that all the designs strictly followed the brand guidelines that were recently developed for the team.

My Role

Our approach for the membership website design was to develop a concept that not only reflected the Seattle Kraken's identity but also conveyed their message effectively to their intended audience, while maintaining a clean and user-friendly interface. After the completion of the website, I moved on to creating social media graphics that would capture the attention of fans and create excitement. To achieve this, I used the team's brand colors and logo consistently across all designs, while incorporating bold typography and visually striking imagery to make each post stand out on fans' feeds.

Process

We received a brief from the Kraken's marketing team, who we collaborated with throughout the process. They included a persona and sitemap for us to base our work on. We picked up the project from there and iterated with them over mid fidelity wireframes, eventually handing off high fidelity wireframes.

The Results

The membership dashboard, integrated with Ticketmaster, provided fans with a variety of membership plans, granting them access to exclusive perks. This approach helped the Seattle Kraken successfully achieve their membership signup goals.

Lessons learned

After completing the bootcamp, I have a clearer understanding of the process I would prefer to follow for a project like this. I would prioritize better communication with the client through my manager, asking questions, challenging their ideas, and suggesting improvements. Given that selling memberships was their primary goal, I would also recommend conducting user testing to ensure users can easily complete the task.

Collaborating with another designer on the team, I transformed his artwork into animated stickers for Instagram Stories to encourage Seattle fans to vote during the 2020 general election.‍
